A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a mandatory reference number made up of letters and numbers that creates an online record of your nationally recognised training in Australia. All students undertaking vocational education and training (VET) must have a USI to enrol and receive a qualification or statement of attainment.

Legend Institute (RTO 41426 | CRICOS 04002K) requires every student—domestic and international—to provide their USI before training can commence.

Why Do I Need a USI?

Your USI:

  • Allows you to access your full training records and transcripts at any time
  • Ensures your qualifications are stored securely in a national online database
  • Is required to issue your VET qualification or statement of attainment
  • Helps training providers and government agencies verify your training history

Without a valid USI, Legend Institute cannot issue you with your certificate or transcript

Who Needs a USI?

You need a USI if you are:

  • A domestic student enrolling in any VET course
  • An international student studying in Australia
  • A student applying for a certificate, statement of attainment, or skill set

International students outside Australia do not need a USI until they arrive in Australia and have identification documents issued.

How to Create Your USI

Creating a USI is simple, free and takes only a few minutes.

Step 1: Visit the Official USI Website
Go to the national USI system:

Step 2: Have One Valid ID Document Ready
You can use one of the following:

  • Australian passport
  • Non-Australian passport (with valid Australian visa)
  • Australian driver’s licence
  • Australian birth certificate
  • Medicare card
  • Certificate of Registration by Descent
  • Other accepted ID documents listed on the USI website

Step 3: Complete the USI Application Form
Fill in your personal details as they appear on your ID.

Step 4: Receive Your USI
You will receive your USI instantly.
Provide this number to Legend Institute during your enrolment process.

International Students

International students must have an Australian visa and be physically in Australia before they can successfully create a USI.

If you are unable to create your USI before orientation, our staff will assist you during the enrolment and induction process.

  • Your personal details
